Arms Race — Daily 4-Hour Block Strategy

People in my alliance chat keep asking how anyone is supposed to keep up with an event that changes six times a day. Short answer: you’re not supposed to. I only aim for three blocks a day, and in this post I’ll walk through why, plus the routine I’ve settled into.

Structure

A day splits into 6 blocks of 4 hours each, with 5 theme phases — so one phase runs twice a day. The interesting bit is that the start shifts 4 hours earlier every day, which rotates players in every time zone into the same phase at decent hours. I play from Chiang Mai (UTC+7), and some days my favorite phase lands at 3am — but wait a few days and it rotates back into my evening. So if today’s schedule doesn’t suit you, don’t sweat it.

Scoring runs on badges: up to 36 badges a day, with reward chests opening at 2 · 8 · 18 badges. That means fully clearing 3 phases in a day gets you all three chests plus the “Today’s Goal” milestone. Those numbers are exactly why I said three blocks is enough.

Phase types (typical)

Each phase scores different actions. Commonly:

  • Build / base power — build speedups, building upgrades.
  • Research — research speedups/completions.
  • Troop training — training/promotions.
  • Hero / power — hero upgrades (using EXP/shards/skill medals).
  • Drone / radar — drone parts, radar missions.

Exact names and composition vary by patch and server, so I won’t pretend this list is gospel. The habit that matters is checking the next phase in-game and pre-hoarding the resources it scores.

My routine

When I log in, the first thing I check is today’s block order. I pick the three phases that match what I’ve stockpiled and deliberately write off the rest. Within each chosen phase, the first job is hitting the minimum for the phase rewards and the “Today’s Goal” milestone.

One rule above all: save your main resources for the decisive Alliance Duel stages. I once burned my research speedups during an Arms Race window without checking the Duel’s theme day, and my Duel score for that day was a flat zero. Ever since, I time my chest-opening to line up with Alliance Duel tasks — one action, points on both boards. That double-dip is the real answer to this event.

Since Skill Medals are the headline reward, it’s worth deciding your spending order in advance too. I run a mono tank squad, so my medals went into my tank’s tactical and passive skills first; if you’re building around a damage dealer, attack skills come first.

Common mistakes

Spend resources on anything unrelated to the current phase and you score exactly zero — the system gives no partial credit. The opposite failure is going all-in on the Arms Race and having nothing left for the decisive Duel stages (Thu/Sat). The thing to remember is that the Arms Race comes back every single day. A phase you miss today rotates back tomorrow, probably at a better hour.
