Getting Started — Not Wasting Your First Two Weeks

Updated 2026-08-31 lastwarhub.com

New here? Start on this page. It lays out, in order, the things nobody told me when I started.

The first two weeks matter more than they look

In most mobile strategy games an early mistake washes out eventually. Last War has one window where it does not: the free resources and newcomer-only rewards that arrive in the opening days. They are spent once, and where you spent them is still visible in your battle power two months later.

The trap is that the game never says so. There is always something to upgrade and everything looks worthwhile, so most new players spread their resources thinly across everything. That is the single most common mistake. Battle power in Last War comes from concentrated growth, not broad growth.

Three things to know immediately

Only five heroes fight. A formation holds five, and those five are all that matters. Resources poured into a sixth hero do nothing today. Which ones deserve investment is covered in the hero tier list.

Do not mix branches. Tank, aircraft and missile form a rock-paper-scissors triangle, and the favoured branch takes 20% less damage. That is why single-branch squads dominate. The details are in branch counters.

Headquarters level gates almost everything. Drone Center, capital capture, later awakening — all of them are HQ-gated. If your HQ can be upgraded and you are spending elsewhere, that is usually the wrong call.

Read them in this order

  1. 7-Day Roadmap — a day-by-day plan for the first week. Start here if you simply do not know what to do next.
  2. Core Systems — how resources, branches and your base interlock. This is where “why am I doing this?” gets answered.
  3. What Not To Do — the classic resource-burning mistakes, half of them mine. Plenty of people read this one first.
  4. Glossary — for when alliance chat stops being English.

After the first week

The game widens quickly once week one is behind you. A sensible order from there:

  • Join an alliance first. Almost every event in Last War is alliance-scoped; solo play caps out fast.
  • Events — Arms Race and Alliance Duel score different actions on different days. Timing spending to those days multiplies the reward from the same resources.
  • Base development — building priorities and research order.
  • Seasons — which season your server is in and what changes in it.
  • Spending efficiency — where money actually converts, including how to run free-to-play.

Common questions

Is free-to-play viable?

Yes, but it becomes a game of decision accuracy rather than growth speed. The fewer resources you have, the more the three principles above decide your outcome.

Can I change servers?

Transfers unlock under certain conditions, but only within a fixed migration group, and they are hard to reverse. When the question comes up, Transfer finder compares candidates.

Is it too late to start?

Servers each have their own age and new ones have kept opening, so starting on a fresh server puts you alongside people at the same stage — a completely different situation from joining an old server late.
