Season 2 Guide — Polar Storm

Let me open with a confession. My single worst blunder in this game happened in S2. Early in the season I figured the temperature mechanic was just some cosmetic debuff, so I sent a march toward a dig site near the polar center. The moment my troops crossed into a −20°C zone, rallies and teleports were locked. All I could do was watch them sit there frozen. Since that day I check the temperature before every single advance, and this guide is written in exactly that order.

Polar Storm is the frozen map. Season-only temperature management gates every action, and the Rare Soil ranking/war plus Scattered Supplies form the backbone. It runs about 8 weeks.

Temperature is the whole season

Your base temperature shifts with location, furnaces, alliance buildings, city heat, and blizzards. The closer you get to the polar center, the colder it gets, and below −20°C you can’t rally or teleport. That’s exactly the trap I walked into — one unchecked number cost me an entire march. Build the habit now: temperature → shields → rally, in that order, before every push.

Temperature isn’t just a wall, though; it’s also a key. Scattered Supplies only appear once you heat an area to 0°C or higher. Manage your coal for heat, produce titanium alloy, and position the alliance furnace to carve warm advance routes. Our alliance’s R4 chat argued about furnace placement for days, and the answer turned out to be simple: close to the next capture target, on a route everyone actually uses.

Rare Soil — a holding game, not a taking game

Captured cities and dig sites produce Rare Soil over time, and alliances are ranked by total accumulation at season end. Which means the flashy conquest plays matter less than boring, consistent holding. I’ve watched alliances on our server overextend, lose territory, retake it, lose it again — and finish below the alliance that just held what it could defend.

One more thing: Violet’s SSR→UR promotion is available this season. Worth grabbing for a f2p/low-spend roster.

The priorities I ran with

  1. Stay above the −20°C safety line so you’re never action-locked. Once you’ve been frozen, you understand why this is number one.
  2. Hold territory to accumulate Rare Soil — the core of ranking and rewards.
  3. Get one main carry to EW Lv20 (Murphy/Carlie/Swift, per your line).
  4. Keep collecting Scattered Supplies — the weapon and universal shards feed your carry directly.
  5. Top up in the Black Market at season end (below).

Week by week

Week 1 — Temperature basics + Murphy EW

Secure a safe temperature with furnaces and city heat, and heat areas to 0°C+ for early shards. Murphy’s exclusive weapon (tank) opens — and since I run a mono tank squad, this was the main event for me. If a frontline tank is your carry, make Lv20 your first target.

Week 2 — Lay down holdings

Capture cities and dig sites to start Rare Soil production. Push the alliance furnace forward to keep your holdings warm.

Week 3 — Faction choice + Carlie EW

Choose your faction (Rebels vs Gendarmerie) — the whole war landscape splits from here, so decide with your alliance and server politics in mind. Carlie’s EW (air) also opens.

Week 4 — Rare Soil War, the hard part

Rare Soil Wars begin, and blizzards overlap the same stretch, making this the trickiest temperature window of the season. If you’ve been frozen once like me, this is the week you sweat. Triple-check temperature, shields, and rally before moving.

Week 5 — Lock in the ranking

Defend holdings to protect your accumulation. No costly solo dives — follow alliance calls.

Week 6 — Swift EW + finish the build

Swift’s EW (missile) opens, completing the season’s three exclusive weapons. Finish your main carry’s EW Lv20 here.

Weeks 7–8 — Final race + Black Market

The final Rare Soil ranking race, then shard shopping in the Black Market once it ends.

Scattered Supplies — coordinates

Supplies hide in city squares and only reveal when the area is heated to 0°C+. Up to 5 rewards per day (one reward per supply). Coordinates are identical across servers in your season group, so once mapped, they’re good all season.

Post-season — Black Market

This is where f2p/low-spend players finish their exclusive weapons. Go in this order: EW shard choice chest (8 daily refreshes, ~150 shards/season) → decorations (permanent stats) → free items first. Common details are on the season index.

One last thing

Advance while ignoring temperature and you’ll hit a −20°C zone where rallies are blocked — combat simply stops being possible. I paid that tuition with a full march; consider this your free lesson. And remember Rare Soil is about holding, so take territory you can actually defend instead of overreaching.
