Counters live in Troop Counters; cross-class lineups in Recommended Squads. This page digs into the five missile heroes only.
Where this comes from, first. I’m a tank main, so I’ve never fully invested in missile as a first squad. But I’ve touched the class from two directions and both run deep. One is my second squad — I ran Tesla in it for a long time for zombie clears and resource farming, and that alone was enough to understand why people call her the PvE king. The other is being on the other side. Tank beats missile, so a missile mono is usually a welcome matchup, and yet I kept finding myself down on the exchange in fights I was supposed to win. Add my alliance’s missile mains and that’s the basis for this page.
The five at a glance
| Hero | Role | Unlock | Base → EW Lv20 → Awakened | In one line |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fiona | Attack (core DPS) | S5 · week 1 | B+ → A | PvP main carry, full-team AoE |
| Tesla | Attack (energy/AoE) | S1 · week 6 | B+ → A → S | PvE king, awakens week 5 |
| McGregor | Attack (DPS/taunt) | S3 · week 6 | B → A | Taunt + attack-down is a nuisance |
| Adam | Attack (DPS with protection) | S4 · week 3 | B → A | A DPS whose kit is half tank |
| Swift | Attack (sub-DPS) | S2 · week 6 | B → A | Targets lowest HP, the finisher |
All five are attack-role. No defense, no support anywhere in that table — which tells you almost everything about the class. The awakening target is Tesla (Season 6, roughly week 5).

Fiona — a different hero either side of EW Lv20
One of my alliance’s heavy spenders runs missile mono, and watching his Fiona before and after EW Lv20 settled my whole impression of this hero. Before, she read as “decent for a B+.” After, her share of the battle report was a completely different unit.
- Auto — Dual Ballistics: single-target physical.
- Tactical — Fission Bombardment: AoE physical across the entire enemy team.
- Passive — Ballistic Enhancement: her own physical damage climbs during the fight.
That full-team tactical is her identity. From the receiving end, the troop graph visibly kinks when it lands. Even though tank beats missile, Fission Bombardment hurt every single time.
Lv30 is where the cost spikes, so stopping at Lv20 is the realistic call for a small spender. She’s a Season 5 week-1 unlock, which also means less time to have accumulated shards than the older heroes.
Her weakness is that EW reliance itself. Before the weapon she feels flat, and without front-row protection she gets cut off fast. Fighting her, Fiona comps with a thin front tend to get cleaned up before the AoE ever goes off.
Tesla — PvE king, and missile’s only awakening target
Tesla’s name comes up in alliance chat constantly this season. She’s the late (around week 5) awakening target, so the missile players are already doing shard math.
- Auto — Chain Lightning: single-target energy.
- Tactical — Grid Collapse: AoE energy hitting three back-line targets.
- Passive — Power Surge: her own energy damage climbs during the fight.
- Awakened skill — Surging Resonance: chain lightning bouncing roughly 7 times between targets. Replaces the Super-Sensory slot on awakening.
Run one zombie wave and you’ll understand why chained lightning is so good when enemies pour in in a line. Even on my second squad, zombie clear times were visibly different. I can only imagine what a fully built one does.
EW Lv20 is the missile +7.5% and the awakening prerequisite. Stop there and Season 6 awakening is simply locked. Season 1 week-6 unlock, which is old — the upside being far more time to have farmed shards from the black market.
Week 5 gives you room. That said, I awakened Kimberly in week 1 and 50 shards was tighter than I expected. Drop a single trial or expedition week and the schedule slips. If missile is your main, start tracking shard sources now.
Her weakness is being situational in PvP, and needing stars, weapon and awakening all together — so she finishes late.
McGregor — the hero I learned by fighting
McGregor is a hero I learned from the wrong side of the field. Meeting a missile mono as tank is a favourable matchup, and yet comps with McGregor in them kept costing me more than they should. I went back through the battle log and found it: my back row was getting taunted out of position while its attack was cut, so my damage timings kept slipping.
- Auto — Indomitable Strike: single front-priority target, physical.
- Tactical — Heaven’s Descent: taunts several back-line targets and applies an attack reduction for a few seconds.
- Passive — Vitality Boost: all damage he takes is reduced during the fight.
The tactical is the whole hero. Taunt and attack-down arriving together is quietly infuriating to play against. That said — being annoyed by him is a statement about him as one piece of a comp; I’ve never seen McGregor alone turn a fight. Season 3 week 6, a reinforcement piece for missile mono, generally low priority.
Adam — a DPS whose kit is half tank
Every class has one hero with a strange kit, and for missile it’s Adam. He’s classified as an attack-role DPS, but his tactical is a team-wide defense buff and his passive reduces front-row damage. To someone who has run tank for this long, that reads as half a tank.
- Auto — MK43 Vehicle Machine Gun: single-target physical.
- Tactical — Defensive Counter: team-wide defense up for a duration.
- Passive — Thorn Armor: reduces damage the front row takes.
I asked my alliance’s missile main why he bothers with Adam and got “he makes up for it when the front row is soft.” Looking at the kit, that tracks — he partially patches the structural weakness of a line with no front row.
His unlock is unusual too: most heroes open in week 6, but Adam is Season 4 week 3. That’s the one detail worth remembering.
Swift — the answer to “should I build him yet?”
An alliance newcomer asked me that recently. Short answer: not if your missile mains (Fiona, Tesla) haven’t hit EW Lv20 yet. He’s a good hero who sits later in the queue.
- Auto — Tailored Strike: hits the lowest-HP-percentage target and the area around it.
- Tactical — Weakness Tracking: physical damage to three targets.
- Passive — Precision Operation: his own crit rate climbs during the fight.
Because his auto-attack seeks the weakest target, the easiest way to think of him is the finisher. My alliance’s missile main only raised Swift after both mains were done, and that order is right. Season 2, week 6.
The structural problem with missile, and how to solve it
Five damage dealers. No defense, no support. That’s not a preference, it’s the shape of the class. So a missile mono has to do one of these:
- Borrow a front row from tank — put Murphy and Williams up and three missiles behind. The cost is giving up the mono bonuses (EW Lv20’s class +7.5% across all five, plus the capital mono bonus after occupation).
- Stay mono and cover with shields and rallies — keep the bonuses, survive on play. Charge in solo without scouting and you lose the whole march; I did exactly that early on.
- Slot Adam to partially patch it — as above, his buffs and reductions bandage a thin front row.
None of the three is clean, which is why I’d call missile the hardest of the three lines to finish. In exchange, once it is finished, Fiona’s full-team AoE overlapping Tesla’s chain lightning produces a damage picture the other lines don’t have.
It beats air and loses to tank. Given how common tank mono is, the matchup luck isn’t great — which makes scouting and picking your fights matter more.
The full investment picture is in the Exclusive Weapon Guide; Tesla’s week-5 awakening timing and shard math continue in the Awakening Guide.
