Just want the answer for your server? Punch the number into the Season Clock or the “Today’s Front” panel on the home page. This post is about where those answers come from.
Every time someone migrates into my alliance, we get the same little scene. Wednesday morning, the new member asks “Zombie Invasion starts today, right?” — and our server is on General’s Trial. They’re not wrong; on their old server it was Zombie Invasion week. The weekly event doesn’t run on one global schedule.
We didn’t know that at first either. The first version of our server list computed the weekly event as if it were global, and a big chunk of servers came out backwards. Fixing it, we broke it again. What follows is the rule set we ended up with, which matches an outside calendar on all 2,304 servers.
Rule zero: the game day flips at 02:00 UTC
Everything hangs off this. Last War’s day boundary is 02:00 UTC — that’s 11:00 in Korea and 09:00 where I live in Chiang Mai. Log in on Monday at 10:00 KST and the game still thinks it’s Sunday. That’s one of the most common reasons people miss a day-themed event. Whenever this post says “today” or “Monday”, it means game date.
Alliance Duel themes (Monday drones through Saturday Enemy Buster) follow this game weekday on every server alike. The next two things do not.
Shining Mission: every 3 days from opening day
Shining Mission shows up once every three days, counted from the day the server opened. Call opening day “day 1” and the mission days are 1, 4, 7, 10… Know the open date and you can predict it years ahead without drift.
Because open dates are scattered, so are mission days. On 24 September, 784 servers have it today, 752 tomorrow and 768 the day after — a near-perfect three-way split. If a friend on another server says “Shining Mission is up”, odds are two in three it isn’t up on yours.
Weekly event: odd weeks A, even weeks B
| Week | Wed–Fri | Sunday |
|---|---|---|
| A (odd) | General’s Trial | Doomsday |
| B (even) | Zombie Invasion | Rampage Bosses |
The hard part is where “week 1” starts. Servers split into two camps:
- Season 5 and 6 servers count from their season start. The first week of the season is week 1 (A).
- Season 0–4 servers count from the Monday of the week the server opened.
Here are the last three weeks on my server (#397, Season 6 started 4 May). Green dots are Shining Mission; shaded cells are that week’s event days.
How we got it wrong (twice)
Mistake #1: assuming it’s global. Our first build used one calendar week count for every server. A lot of servers came out with A and B swapped. Only after digging through how an outside calendar computed it did we see that each server has its own anchor.
Mistake #2: “let’s just anchor everything on season start.” Season 5/6 servers use their season start, so why not make it uniform? We tried. 464 servers broke. Season 0–4 servers really do still count from their open date, so we reverted it. That’s also why our data deliberately stores only Season 5 and 6 start times — adding Season 1–4 starts would push the calculation down the wrong branch.
Both mistakes came from wanting the rule to be tidier than it is. Games follow their history, not tidiness. My best guess is that the anchor switch at Season 5 is a trace of the event system being reworked around that season, rather than a deliberate design. That’s a guess, though.
The off-by-one that isn’t a bug
One more gotcha worth writing down. The open dates in our server list are usually one day later than what the outside calendar shows on screen — a timezone rendering thing. We first treated that as an error and “fixed” it, and every single Shining Mission prediction slid by a day. With the dates as they are, predictions match on all 2,304 servers, so our +1 day is actually the one aligned with the 02:00 UTC game day. If you compare open dates with another site and see a one-day difference, that’s why.
Why more servers are on A right now
Today it’s 1,301 servers on A versus 1,003 on B. Not 50/50 — and the breakdown explains why:
| Group | A week | B week |
|---|---|---|
| Season 6 | 736 | 320 |
| Season 5 | 128 | 256 |
| Season 0–4 | 437 | 427 |
Season 0–4 servers have scattered open dates, so they’re close to even. Season 5/6 servers started their season in waves — hundreds of servers sharing one start date — so whole waves share a parity. The #69–420 Season 6 wave alone is 352 servers. And every Monday those Season 6 numbers swap wholesale: next week it’ll be 320 on A and 736 on B.
The practical angle is migration. Move to a Season 5/6 server and your event week becomes the destination wave’s week. If you want an extra General’s Trial week, pick your move timing with the destination’s parity in mind.
Using it
- Monday alliance post. “A week — General’s Trial Wed–Fri, Doomsday Sunday.” I copy it straight from the Season Clock’s one-line button.
- Resource planning. General’s Trial and Zombie Invasion run three days (Wed–Fri); Doomsday and Rampage Bosses are a single Sunday. Knowing next week’s set tells you what to hold speedups and troops for.
- Shining Mission reminders. Fixed 3-day cycle — check once, set a repeating alarm, done.
Caveats
None of this is official; it’s what 2,304 servers do, checked against an outside calendar. Event names and weekday slots can change with patches, and merges or special event weeks can break the pattern. If the game disagrees with us, the game is right — let us know and we’ll re-check the rules.
